Summary: | This article is aimed at elucidating the aspects of cultural formation by focusing on the work of artisans within thecontext of the history of the city of Tiradentes, MG, and its surrounding region and by contrasting demands fromthe world of work with the resistance that can exist in the process of creation. Based on the authors of CriticalTheory of Society, handicraft is considered in the midst of the Culture Industry, in an attempt to understandwhether it still has elements of resistance concretized in the handicraft. As part of the research method we present asurvey of the conditions of production and nadicraft through visits to places of production and sale of handicraftproducts, and analysis of documents from the Corporação de Artesãos de Tiradentes, observing group meetingsand interviews. It is considered that, under market speculations of high productivity, the possibility of fulfillment byhandicraft becomes impoverished by the imposition of a rate of standardization and trivializations of its products.
