description The UN Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration, (December 2018), has been signed by most of the world’s countries, although notable absentees remain, such as the United States and 11 EU member states. Its approval, in a context marked by serious tensions in the field of international migration, represents a major achievement and a commitment to multilateralism. This paper frames the compact within the Kantian logic of the “right to world citizenship”, summarises its development process and highlights its 23 objectives. Finally, an evaluation is made that acknowledges the risks of derailment but highlights the need to adopt the compact’s philosophy and make it the key instrument for guaranteeing safe, orderly and regular international migration.
