description Natural calamity is related to personal life and property. A natural disaster is not man-made but today it is true. Nature is dismantled when people distort it based on needs. For example, there are many other reasons like deforestation, shortening of rivers and streams to create settlements, encroachment of ponds and lakes to create high buildings, dumping of waste materials in water bodies, and use of water in water bodies for agricultural land. While some events are being carried out for the economic development of the country, the environment is affected by the increase in population. This is true to the present day condition. Sangam Tamil Literature suggests that the environment protects living organisms. All Sangam literature songs have a connection to nature and the environment. If nature is removed, there is no beauty in the Sangam songs. ‘Eraichi’ and ‘Ullurai’ are the central themes in Sangam poems. “Tolkappiam” speaks about land, time based on land, exchange of love between man and woman living on land, and basic needs of people such as food, clothing, and shelter based on five landscapes of Tamil Nadu. The article shows how environment plays a vital part in disaster management. Although we cannot completely stop natural disasters, the intelligence of the ancient people encourages us to take precautionary measures to protect ourselves from them.
