description | The present day turkish has an important amount of formulas to curse or to damn someone. This genre, called ilenç/ilenti exists in that form from the very beginning of the turkish runic inscriptions of Central Asia. Despite the fact that islam forbits the use of the curse, grounded on a very ancient Great tradition the genre has a large use in everydays turkish. More, this practice is relevant of the main classical genres of the traditionnal turkish literature: epics, poetry, “lyrical novel” and their specific technics. Bys this dimension the ilenç is a way for disctinction and domination of the adversary. This explains the limited choice of the “targets”: human body, the family, illness, an unworthy dead, etc. |
