| description | The paper presents the scientific foundation of the necessity to analyze the phenomenon of (im)politeness in the academic world as well as to interest the academia in the new research perspectives in this particular field. The hypothesis, which the undertaking of further examination of the issue is based on, results from the assumption that the changes within the understanding of the concept of politeness that are momentarily taking place in various segments of the social life, have now reached the academic environment as well. The theoretical background of the intended analysis are the reflections about the social role of the university nowadays as well as the current scientific discourse, which provides the first empirical evidence of the standards violations, that occur in both oral and written academic communication. The paper ends with the conclusion that a thorough research of the new politeness phenomena is absolutely necessary, otherwise the high prestige of the academic institutions will start to fade out. |
