| Summary: | This article examines how Lope de Vega used astrology satirically in two works from his early maturity: the Arcadia and the Rimas. In particular, we will focus on analyzing a complicated sonnet from the Rimas, number CXV, «A Juan Baptista Labaña», whose curious astrological references we will examine as an exercise in satirical wit. Finally, we will contrast this satirical and astrological wit with other witty constructions from the Arcadia and with several other poems by the poet. |
