Between the 27th of October to the 1st of November 2020, the lidar system observed a pronounced and well-aged stratospheric aerosol layer with a backscatter maximum around 10 km asl and clear wildfire smoke signatures. The observed smoke plume was caused by extreme wildfires on the west coast of the U.S. Long-range aerosol transport events observed over Limassol are used for the study of the influence of organic aerosol particles (serving as ice-nucleating particles, INPs) in a cirrus formation in the upper troposphere. |
