Summary:Since Independence, the discussion about Spain has been associated in Mexico to the process of national building in the cultural, ideological and political. The works of Genaro Estrada, Secretary of Foreign Affairs during the period of institutionalization of the Revolution, ambassador to Spain dur- ing the Second Republic and writer and scholar of colonial Mexico, perfectly exemplifies the complexities and turns of the relations between Mexico and Spain in the transition from the nineteenth to the twentieth century, with in- volvement in the aesthetic, ideological and political.
