Summary: | The author first argues that the “post-factualism” and “post-truth” trends observed in the wake of Brexit in the United Kingdom and Donald Trump’s election as president in the United States can be analyzed by making a distinction between the unique relationships that news and communication each have with reality. He then argues that these are not new phenomena in journalism and political discourse. Lastly, he suggests breaking them down into three separate categories: the fake, the approximate, and the spiel. |
