Description
Summary:The paper proposes an original scheme of the bi-directional three-phase converter (BTC) with high power factor. A unique feature of the converter is the introduction of a special high-frequency voltage-boost inverter which allows to stabilize output voltage and reduce  harmonic distortion of mains current.A distinctive feature of the developed converter is a small number of quick-acting fully-controlled semiconductor switches in the power path.A voltage-boost inverter of the developed converter operates only with a fraction of the converter output power. It is shown that with an optimally chosen output voltage, the power rating of the voltage-boost inverter may be equal to only 4.5% of the output power. The developed converter ensures operation with an input power factor of 0.95 in the rectifier mode and –0.89 in the regenerative mode, the input current harmonic distortion is about 31 % and 50 %, respectively.
