Often, interesting chemistry is uncovered by exploring new biomes, of which the Chilean Atacama Desert is a prime example. This paper describes the isolation and structural characterisation, using HR-LCMS and 1D and 2D NMR, of a new compound belonging to a family of compounds called radstrictins. The compound was isolated from a fungus, that had itself been isolated from a soil sample from the Atacama Desert. The compound was tested against pathogenic strains associated with bovine mastitis, but was found to be devoid of antimicrobial activity.
