description This study attempted to examine the effectiveness of a writing course designed with the process genre approach and a blended learning approach (BLA) for teacher trainees, who are at the same time English as a foreign language learners. An action research was designed to implement the course content and collect data in relation to the students’ performances in pen-and-paper and online modes of teaching and learning. The results indicated that the participants’ performances in essay writing improved significantly both during pen-and-paper work and online work. However, when their performances were compared in the two modes of teaching, it appeared that the participants produced better written products when they were taught using the BLA.
