description To talk about comics in Latin America is to talk about Mafalda. The international circulation of Quino's most acclaimed character endowed her with the ability to articulate with the most varied social contexts, surpassing her origins dear to Argentina in the 1960s. The intention of this article is to analyse an aspect of this circulation, dealing with Mafalda's publication in the Brazilian alternative newspaper O Pasquim. We qualify its spread throughout the periodical in terms of ruin, as its presence denoted an absence, since Mafalda is announced based on Quino's decision not to draw the character. The paper discusses the ruined nature of this procedure, which allows O Pasquim to forge cleavages on Quino's work, configuring its reception among Brazilian readers.
