In de case of Puebla, it was the enlightened ideas (in the late the XVIII century) that began to question those practices, proposing to locate the cemeteries outside the cities. However, it was not until September 1827 that the authorities of the State of Puebla approved the first law about the establishment of cemeteries. The political and financial problems put off the work until 1833, when an outbreak of Cholera Morbus forced the authorities to build cemeteries quickly. It was abandoned two years later returning thus to the traditional practices. At the beginning of the 1880's, the old project finnaly became reality: a municipal pantheon was built in the Southwest of the city. |
