description | Subject of Research. This paper presents analysis of the possibility for establishing all-weather pulse laser altimeters for measuring of low altitudes above the sea surface. We proposed special design features which take into account the random nature of the reflective properties and low reflection coefficient of the water surface. Method. Theoretical analysis and numerical simulation of temporal characteristics of backscattering return and average power reflected from the sea surface were carried out. The method of altitude measuring to the sea surface in conditions of fog and haze is based on the time interval measuring between the emitted pulse drop and the backscattered signal drop when backscattered signal exceeds the certain level.Main Results. A block diagram of pulsed laser altimeter is proposed which makes it possible to measure low altitudes to the sea surface in various meteorological conditions. The ranges of measured altitudes are determined in the clean atmosphere and in the conditions of fog and haze.Practical Relevance. The proposed scheme ensures the navigation of low-flying vehicles above the sea surface under radio interference in all-weather conditions |
