When reading the “Diary” of Yu. Nagibin, the well-known, external image of the writer’s fate that has developed in the mind of the reader is corrected by the expression of internal processes, emotional
tension.
The purpose of the article is to restore the socio-psychological image of the author of the Diary in the context of time. The image of the author in this case is all the more interesting because, for all his personality, he displays features characteristic of the psychological motivation of the social behavior of an intellectual of the Stalin-Brezhnev era, who captured both the time of the global socio-political turning point in the history of the Soviet state and the end of the “great era” .
Nagibin was not an internal emigrant. He never opposed the System realistically and openly, although he did not tarnish himself with signing, participating in meetings to condemn Pasternak or Sinyavsky, admiring Solzhenitsyn’s behavior. The diary of the writer shows a drama of cognitive dissonance, discord with himse lf.
Out of his painful suspiciousness grows a victim and, as a result, a misanthrope, and out of vanity - a conjuncturist, paradoxically as it may seem. With the high demands placed on the writer, we see: “He is a man” with all its contradictory features, a man of his time. And, perhaps, sharper and most expressive is the contradiction and hypocrisy of society as a whole and the writers’ community, in particular, refl ected and embodied in this way. |
