| Summary: | The region of Soloco, located in the North of the Peruvian ceja de selva, was occupied between 800 ac. J.-C. and 1470 ac. J.-C. by a population belonging to the tradition chachapoya. Among the various pre-Hispanic establishments, strewing the archaeological landscape, the site of Chaquil is located near the eponymous cave of Chaquil. Various archaeological and caving missions, aiming at investigating and mapping the subterranean networks of the Soloco area, allowed to bring to light the presence of numerous human bones inside this cave which give evidence of the pre-Hispanic use of caves as place of burial. |
