description Before the introduction of antibiotics, acute infectious diseases were often treated by the injection of antiserum (antibody). Products of serum can treat and prevent many infectious diseases. Immunoglobulin preparations are derived from pooled human plasma and these preparations are use via intramuscular, intravenous, subcutaneous and orally. Standard immunoglobulins may be use for prevention of neonatal infections, infection prophylaxis of bone marrow and solid organ transplantation recipients, haemotolgical malignencies and etc. Spesific indications for the use of hyperimmunoglobulin preparations in normal and immunodeficient host at risk of acquiring certain diseases. Disease in this category are hepatitis B, rabies, varicella, tetanus, CMV and RSV infections.
