Description
Summary:This article examines the network of artistic and poetic relationships stemming from Brazilian popular art and its development from modernism. From the 1969 exhibition « A mão do povo brasileiro », [The Hand of the Brazilian People] by Lina Bo Bardi and the book with unpublished texts and photographs by Benjamin Péret, Les arts primitifs et populaires du Brésil, published posthumously in 2017, we suggest that the exhibition of the people in their artistic uniqueness and of the people in their material, social, and spiritual dimension imbues people or peoples with the permanent invention of their own tradition.
