description | This article is investigating a dimension of the French archaeological research abroad, placed since 1945 under the supervision of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs (Maee) : the relations with hosts countries of French archeological missions. During colonial period, these relations were dedicated to the exportation of French science, the control of archeological sites and research policy by the colonizer. With decolonization, implementation of cooperation and development policies, these relations moved on partnership dialogue and the extra-metropolitan archaeology appears as a privileged vector of the radiation of French research. Today, while numerous hosts countries benefit from autonomous scientific capacities and want to master their patrimonial policies, the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs intends to promote large-scale scientific alliances, associating hosts countries, European and international partners, on ambitious programs with significant resources devoted to different components of research and archaeological training, protection and valuation of sites as well as the development of the patrimonial industries. On this stake of scientific and cultural policy, the preservation of French archaeology abroad piloting plan within the MAEE appears as an asset for the French influence diplomacy. |
