Summary:The article is devoted to the analysis of epigraphic monuments of village Old Ashit, Arsk District of the Republic of Tatarstan. The stone tombs, described by the author in the old cemetery of the village, testify to the antiquity of the settlement which appeared during the Golden Horde period and continued its existance in the Kazan Khanate era. In another cemetery of a later period, 108 epigraphic monuments of the 19th – early 20th centuries have been preserved. The grave stones of Mulla Gabdulgali, the son of Mulla Gabdulbasyyr and his son Gabdelbadig, relatives of the scholarenlightener Sh. Mardzhani can be distinguished among them. The article also contains information about some of the Old Ashit village imams who gained fame among contemporaries.
