description This article gives an account of the Oasis project in Chenôve (21), an experiment in the design of a public space which was the object of a totally participative approach. The methodology and some of the significant stages in the design process are related to highlight the mechanisms of ideation and collective decision-making which were adopted. Key stages in the project involved a mediation process and the use of participative tools (or "intermediary objects") which led to minor revelations for the public, the contractor and the contracting authority.
