based on the documentation of the Royal Censorship Bureau, preserved by the National Archives of
Torre do Tombo. Aim for a variety of reasons that promoted the displacement of men and books for
São Luís, at one time comprising experienced important changes in the captaincy. We assume the
distinction between literacy and scholarship, condition for such movement is perceived in its
diversity of motivations, not always related to the dissemination of scientific knowledge. Then
