Summary: | In the context of a research about the healing sanctuaries of the Greek world where the incubation ritual is practised, this paper studies the representation of dreamlike scenes where the solicited deity appears, from a few specific examples of votive reliefs of the fourth century BC. These scenes are embedded in images that highlight the ritual context in which the dream occurs and they provide arepresentation of the deity in line with the one that may be encountered in the healing tales. The making of these ex-voto is not simply intended to reflect a religious experience but rather to demonstrate the efficiency of the intervention of the deity whose decisive gesture accomplished during the dream is enough to bring healing. |
