Summary:Last year the Deputies of the Group of Ten carried out a study of the problem of international liquidity which represents a first and important result of a long process of inquiries first conducted on a theoretical level. In their report, the Deputies recognized the need for a new or additional reserve asset in the long run, and consequently entrusted the detailed examination of the proposals aiming at this objective to a Study Group. The present article analyses the Report of the Study Group, published in August of this year. The nature and the limits of the Mandate are first reviewed and structure of the report detailed. The nature of the problem is then considered. The existing types of reserve assets are dealt with before the various proposals for the creation of reserve assets are then examined. horizontal analysis of the process of creating new reserve assets is then provided. Finally, future developments and prospectives are considered. JEL: E42, E51, F30
