Description
Summary:The two most important parameters that affect airlines’ aircraft purchase process are the management strategy and investment policy of the decision maker. Airlines may change the priority of these parameters, due to the characteristics of a fleet and flight path. Nowadays, as the global warming is going to be more critical than ever before and the environmental awareness is increasing every day, environmental parameter should be taken into consideration in aircraft purchases. In this study, environmental impacts of domestic flights at Eskişehir, Uşak, Adıyaman, Ağrı and Çanakkale airports between 2006 and 2009 was investigated. As a result, it is envisioned that impact of aircraft emissions at take-off and landing (LTO) phases will drop 62.72% and 68.10% on human health and on the ecosystem quality, respectively, if the regional jet aircrafts will be preferred instead of currently used narrow-body and large aircrafts in these domestic routes. It is anticipated that if airlines minimize environmental impacts of their aircrafts this will be a preference criterion for passengers.
