description The paper studies the largest and mightiest estate of Dagestan – the Shamkhalate of Tarki. This feudal foundation could be characterized with highly developed economics and social structure of the society. In the late 16th – first half of 17th centuries the Shamkhalate of Tarki played the main part in politic events in Dagestan. The Tarki shamhals pursued the policy directed on the Shamkhanate’ remaining indepent from the three neighbouring empires (Russia, Turkey and Iran), and on dominating in the political life of Dagestan state foundations.
