Summary:The purpose of the article is to describe the current state in the field of recognising and working with gifted pupils in school context in the last ten years in Slovenia. The author discusses the main documents which determine the implementation of the procedures of identification and working with gifted pupils in primary school within the country. The article outlines the theoretical justifications of the Concept: Recognising and working with gifted pupils in nine-years primary school, as well as some of the most important empirical findings relying on its implementation analysis. In the final part the current problems which are encountered when dealing with gifted pupils at school are highlighted. Some open issues and recommendations which could contribute to a better quality of pedagogical work in the field of recognising and working with gifted pupils are outlined.
