Summary:Phoneme is a basic element which results from the segmentation of utterances. It is considered as a class rather than an entity . this fact is shown through a rather oblique analysis of a higher level , i. c. morphology . Phonemes have different phonetic representations in different contexts . Two phonetic realzations of a phoneme are in complementary distribution ,because they occur in mutully exclusive environment. If they .on the other hand , contrast, they arc said to be un parallel distribution. World languages may include similar lists of phonemes with different Distri bu lions.
