Summary: | Based on the reading of the Historia Compostellana, this study analyses how the chroniclers of
the Church of Santiago de Compostela, throughout the first half of the twelfth century, understood and
portrayed the “portuguese” region of their time. Writing under the guidance of the prelate Diego Gelmírez
(1100-1140), these authors left on their story several considerations about the territory south of Minho
and the authority the elites exerted over it, territory that, at the time, was gradually becoming autonomous
from the Leonese kingdom |
