description | The article considers the primary factors affecting patients’ rehabilitation after implantation of different multifocal intraocular lens models during cataract surgeries. In general, implantation of multifocal intraocular lenses significantly improves visual acuity and provides a good vision in the far near and intermediate distances thereby improving the quality of life of the patient after surgical treatment of cataract. Postsurgical astigmatism, pupil diameter, visual acuity at intermediate distances and contrast sensitivity affect acquired visual functions and the ability to achieve visual independence. At the same time, notwithstanding the obtained high visual acuity, patients complain of having halo effects after multifocal intraocular lens implantation. Abovementioned characteristics are linked to the structural features of multifocal intraocular lenses’ optics. Compared to trifocal intraocular lenses, bifocal intraocular lenses are less demanding of a pupil diameter and demonstrate better contrast sensitivity, but intermediate distance visual acuity is impaired. |
