Summary: | Marriages between French and Belgians are considered here as an indicator of contacts between both populations across the boundary. The evolution through time and following different spatial scales proves a paradoxical effect of the border change : border contacts did not grow during the last decades. They even declined between French and Flemish neighbour populations, while the boundary has become an increasing linguistic limit. Actually they grow at the French national scale, which can be explained by the increasing mobility. So it is at the national scale that the boundary looks more permeable, in a context of linguistic disparities. |
