Description
Summary:Using a quantitative method of surveying, the present study aimed at investigating the relationship between poverty and emotional relationships among couples living in District 16 of Tehran, Iran. Applying cluster sampling, 400 individuals were selected as the statistical sample. The data were collected using a researcher-made questionnaire and were analyzed using descriptive and analytical statistics given by SPSS (Ver. 20). The results showed a significant negative relationship between economic poverty and emotional relationships between couples (p = 0.001), indicating that the more the economic poverty in the family, the less the emotional relationships among the members would be. In addition, a significant statistical correlation existed among economic poverty, negative behaviors, violence in the family, trust, and supportive behaviors (p = 0.001). In general, economic poverty increases violence, which by itself affects the emotional relationships between couples. Therefore, it appears that if adopted policies focus on improving the household economic status and income, the size of the family and community harms will decrease significantly.
