Description
Summary:In the article, Dr. Tarasenkov's notes on the last days of Gogol's life were critically analyzed. Discrepancies of the published text with draft autographs are revealed. It is established that the most important source of information for the author was the oral stories of Count Tolstoy, reproduced in the text of notes from the first person. The diagnosis of Gogol's death illness, made by Tarasenkov, relied not so much on the results of his medical examination, but rather on the prevalent ideas in society that Gogol had died from exhaustion, that is, simply put, starved himself.
