description | Studies on Argentina's right-wing groups show an important trend dedicated to these sectors’ periodical publications. The approaches to La Nueva República, Criterio and similar publications constitute not only a voluminous corpus, but also a testimony to this field of research’s vitality. However, certain areas have not received as much attention, like the participation of Nationalist figures in widely read newspapers. Consequently, this article follows the “orthodox Maurrasian” Alfonso de Laferrère during his tenure as director of La Nación's literary supplement in the 20s. A coveted position, for this Sunday section had become relevant to the local cultural scene. Laferrère exploited these possibilities in different ways, like promoting Action française’s intellectual chef de file Charles Maurras and his followers -whom the Argentine had met during his trip to Europe-, as well as his friends Juan Emiliano Carulla, Ernesto Palacio and Julio Irazusta. In other words, his trajectory offers a window to the itineraries of the “French connection” of Argentine nationalism, as well as to its referents’ early influence. |
