Description
Summary:This article tries to interpret the relation of Portuguese football with contemporary Mozambique, namely the role played by a set of references that, introduced in the territory during the colonial period, persist today in an original and strong fashion. The ways by which these bonds were constructed and became common to the daily life of Portuguese colonizers and African populations in Mozambique are briefly examined. It is argued in this article that, currently, these bonds, more than an expression of a colonial nostalgia, are part of a lively social memory, permanently updated, whose existence and social uses, though based on Portuguese references, are widely autonomous from the colonial inheritance.
