Description
Summary:Abstract The case on acute cholecystitis is a paper-based case designed for use in the medical school curriculum. It can be used to assess a student's ability to: take a focused history and perform a focused physical exam; formulate a short-term treatment plan for the patient; and demonstrate good empathy, communication, and information delivery skills. The case provides detailed information for the standardized patient (SP) on how to accurately and effectively portray a patient with acute cholecystitis. The case also includes a checklist for SP use. Both the case and checklist can be modified to fit an individual institution's needs. It helps to have a surgery faculty member available when training SPs, but this is not a necessity.
