Description
Summary:The emergence of bands in their modern format is due to the establishment of military orchestras in the Romanian space. In the 19th century, due to western cultural influences, band instruments entered the Romanian musical environment, both in the folk and military music ensembles. In the traditional context, a new type of ensemble appeared, consisting only of known fanfare instruments. Due to its sonority, but also the new technical and expressive possibilities, it became very popular, competing with the traditional ensemble. The repertoire, in addition to works of folk origin, starts to include academic music, entertainment works, responding to the requirements of an ethnically, culturally and socially heterogeneous audience. Nowadays, the marcing band holds an important place in the national culture, developing across three areas: the marching band, the urban marching band and the military marching band.
