The fundamental parameters of quality control for raw drug and extractions were assessed. In the microbiological study the fimbria of </span></span></span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span lang="en-US"><em>Escherichia coli</em></span></span></span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span lang="en-US"> was assessed. The studies were conducted at the Provincial Pharmaceutical Laboratory of Las Tunas.</span></span></span></p><p class="western" style="margin-bottom: 0cm; line-height: 100%;" align="justify"><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span lang="en-US"><strong>Results</strong></span></span></span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span lang="en-US">: both the foliaceous and flowering spikes have medium solubility in ethanol at 30 % and 50 %; the pH had values very close to the neuter for the hydroalcoholic extracts at 30 % and 50 % of both spikes, compatible with the physiology of the human organism. The total solids in the 50 % extracts showed better results. The same extract, at 50 %, showed, at phytochemical screening, the presence of amino group, phenols, tannins, triterpenes and steroids, until dilution 1: 4. There was inhibition of the fimbrial expression with aqueous and hydroalcoholic extract at 30 % and at 50 % of the flowering spike.</span></span></span></p><p class="western" style="margin-bottom: 0.14cm; line-height: 100%;" align="justify"><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span lang="en-US"><strong>Conclusions</strong></span></span></span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span lang="en-US">: the aqueous and hydroalcoholic extracts of the flowering spikes showed antimicrobial activity in the fimbria of </span></span></span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span lang="en-US"><em>Escherichia coli</em></span></span></span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span lang="en-US">.</span></span></span></p>
