Description
Summary:In this article I share my journey towards the incorporation of the balinese mask based on my intersubjective experience; this is a process often chaotic and full of doubts. Do we need embody another culture to understand the performer in another context? Do we need to embody another culture in order to learn the other's dance-theatre technique? Can the principles of Balinese mask embodiment be applied to a foreign body? I'll attemp to answer these questions through my physical experience of learning and researching to embody the principles of otherness first, through the narrative of my learning process then, via the voices of my teachers and mentors verbalising their own perpectives on mask embodiment.
