Summary: | From several decades, the car is spotted for its polluting emissions and for the consumption of space. The limitation of car use is at the heart of the majority of public mobility policies in Europe. This positioning seems today strengthened by a presumption of dislike of the car from a part of the population like the young adults. Recent publications show a clear reduction of the age of the driving license obtaining. Based on a survey of 8,193 adolescents in 5 European countries, the paper proposes to analyse the car perception among teenagers aged 14 to 17 years old. In the coming years, teenagers will have to cope with the question of the driving license. It is then useful to better know how they position themselves in relation to the car. The results show that most European teenagers have a good perception of the car. The construction of this perception is based on a variety of registers: functional, safety, environmental or aesthetic dimension. We also discuss in particular the effects of gender, age, incomes and place of residence on the image car have. |
