Summary:This article presents the results of a sociolinguistic study of forms of address in French - tutoiement/familiar address and vouvoiement/formal address - conducted at the University of Western Brittany, the rural hospital and the school Alain in Crozon (Finistère). The study identifies notions of age, social status, affective affinities, personality, education and culture, as well as diachronic evolutions and an openness to taking into account other forms of addressing others than these two alone.
