Given the fact that historical research is facing growing complex challenges, there is a need to consider sources that previously were considered as auxiliary. First of all, this applies to works of art. Pictorial sources are no less important than any other is. As a confirmation of this fact, the article reviews the works of K.K. Kolman, G.A. Bosse, V.V. Kabanov, N.A. Kiselev, Y.N. Raukh, and a painting by an unknown artist of the mid–19th century. Using these artworks as an example, the significance of works of art in the restoration of the historical appearance of a Russian manor, the Semyonovskoye-Otrada manor, is evaluated. A conclusion is drawn whether it is possible to use exclusively works of art for the organization restoration work or whether other sources are also needed. |
