Summary:The 21st-century capitalist economic system, associated with globalization, has been generating environmental imbalances at the expense of the exploitation of natural resources. Considering extremely relevant from the perspective regarding the quality of life, production, and consumption, the work seeks to analyze the future of heritage wealth from a historical comparison regarding the exploitation of natural resources and includes the Environmental Management System - EMS associated with technologies better suited to the environment as a factor of innovation to achieve sustainable development. It is concluded from the analysis that the implementation of the Environmental Management System in organizations can generate greater profitability and benefits in the market, thus contributing to sustainable development.
