Description
Summary:This paper analyzes the safeguarding process, started in the 1960s, of the first Italian Element inscribed in the UNESCO’s ICH 2003 List, the Opera dei pupi, which became a Masterpiece of Humanity in 2001. This participatory process combines museographic activity, field research and the staging of shows, both traditional and innovative. It was promoted by the Antonio Pasqualino Puppet Museum of Palermo, which is a museum of performance, a museum-narration, a place of ideas and not of things, which goes beyond the simple collection and becomes a meta-story, an “open work”.
