description The article is devoted to the analysis of the origin of fixed combinations and collocations forming phraseological fund of modern Spanish. To identificate the national language units some examples of phraseological units are illustrated with historical and etymological interpretation along with the developed culturological comments on them. In the work the situation is illustrated through the analysis of the historical and etymological references which are available in the Spanish phraseological dictionaries and literature of the modern period.
