Summary: | This paper investigates the performance of an alderman, a religious agent linked to the Assembly of God and who works at the City Council of Campo Mourão-PR, in order to problematize the presence of evangelicals in politics through the establishment of commemorative time frames. In particular, it is discussed the proposal of a bill authored by the mentioned councilman, who requested the insertion of the “Day of the Evangelical” in the municipal calendar. The documentary corpus is composed by the Law 186/2013 and other collected materials, such as posts and publications on social networks and local news websites. We discuss about the presence of evangelicals in politics, growing in Brazil especially since the 1980s, that has been setting legislative guidelines and marking the presence in the public space. Such imbrications between religion and politics challenge us to reflect on the secularization of society and the laity of the state.
