Summary: | Norbert Elias has become one of the classic ones of the human and social sciences, imposing as a figure of the first order between the authors of the sociology. Born in 1897 in Breslau, Germany, Elias meets obliged to leave his country in 1933 when he was going to defend his thesis about The society of court. He finds refuge in London where he tackles a wide sociological and historical research on the modifications of the behavior in the Renaissance between the members of the aristocracy. It is from this study that he elaborates his theory of the process of civilization that will be re-discovered more than thirty years later after his first edition in 1939. The path of Elias's work is completely singular, like his own life marked by the exile and the personal dramas linked to the tragedies of the history of the 20th century. Bearing in mind the narrow bow that links his life and his work, this article proposes to analyze the eliasian thought across his theories of the process of civilization and of the social figuration. |
