وأخيراً أكدت الدراسة حجم الظلم الذي أحاق بالدين والتضييق الكبير الذي خلَّفته الأطروحة على الوجود الإنساني، منوِّهةً بضرورة إعادة قراءة تراث الأنوار، ومحاولة ربط تلك القراءة بالنظرية السياسية والعلاقات الدولية لاستيعاب عالمنا المعاصر على نحوٍ أفضل.
This study seeks to highlight some of the current critical responses addressed to the secularization thesis as reflected in Western and Islamic contexts. It provides definitions of secularism, secularization and the secularization thesis in an attempt to evaluate its origins, major thinkers and historical development in the West. It also finds that secularism has a long formative history and that the return of religion to the global scene has played a decisive role in refuting its thesis.
The study scrutinizes the unfairness and encroachment that secularism has caused to both religion and human existence. It also notes the need to re-address the heritage of the Enlightenment, and to link that heritage to political theory and international relations in order to develop a better understanding of our contemporary world.
