Summary:The aim of this paperis to analyse the factors of urban planning and design that favoursthe active city, in relation to the influence of the design of public space on the physical activity of citizens. Through the study of national and international experiences, various strategies structured in six categories are presented: active planning, active public space, active mobility, active space design, active green and active Smart City. It is concluded that active urban planning requires a commitment from the administrations tosport and non-motorized mobility, flexible urban spaces and the promotion of citizen participation
